Memory Foam Travel Pillow And Other Memory Foam Pillows
Memory foam travel pillow can come in a lot of different choices. Here's a guide to help you decide which memory foam travel and regular pillow would be best for you.
Memory Foam Travel Pillow
A high quality memory foam travel pillow should have some kind of elevated and contoured side panels that will provide a comfortable support for your head and neck. The pillow should have some way of attaching around your neck, with either a button or a tie, to keep the pillow from slipping off your shoulders. The flat edge on the back of the pillow rests against your seat without slipping. One size usually fits all. And the pillow should have a machine washable cover.
If you wish to have your head raised, then the thicker pillows would be better. The draw back for these kinds of pillows is that they may be bulky to travel with.
A compromise may be a memory foam travel pillow that you can squish down to a ball that can easily fit inside of a carryon or briefcase, then when you take it out it 'pops' back into shape.
Regular Memory Foam Pillow
The first thing you need to consider when selecting a memory foam travel or regular pillow is the position you sleep in, the size of your bed, and your personal preferences.
A quality pillow will give where it needs to give and will retain some of the shape when you lift your head.
Stomach sleepers should not get contoured foam pillows. Traditional shape pillows are the recommended shape for stomach sleepers.
Side sleepers can benefit from both contoured and traditional foam pillow. The solid shape of the traditional will be perfect for people who normally like to fluff up their pillow. The contoured foam pillow provides more spinal alignment in the neck area.
Back sleepers can benefit a lot with memory foam pillows. The pillow has the ability to shape itself to the curvature of the neck. Back sleepers can use the traditional shaped pillow that is either shredded or solid or they can use the contoured. The contoured will take the most amount of stress off the back of the neck. An exception to this would be people who tend to move around when they sleep, in this case, the traditional pillow will be the best bet.
Again, as mentioned on the Memory Foam Mattress Pads page, density is your most important consideration. A high quality memory foam pillow will have at least a 5 pound density. Shredded foam pillows will be softer and more pliable than solid memory pillows.
